Girona shocked Real Madrid on Sunday, raising questions as to whether LaLiga is more exciting than the Premier League

Real Madrid were shocked on Sunday when they were defeated by a newly promoted side for the first time in 10 years.
Real last lost a match to a team who only just reached LaLiga all the way back in the 2007-08 season, when Almeria hosted Los Blancos and secured a 2-0 win courtesy of a strike from Juanito and an Alvaro Negredo penalty.
They went nine full seasons without suffering the same fate, before travelling to Girona in their 10th campaign since that defeat to Almeria on Sunday afternoon.
It was Real’s first ever match against Girona, and the Catalan club fought back from a goal down to claim a historic 2-1 victory. Isco had handed the visitors the lead inside the first 15 minutes, but Christian Stuani levelled the scores 10 minutes after the break before Portu netted the winner four minutes later.
This is just the third time a newly promoted team has beaten the reigning champions of Spain’s top division since Almeria overcame Real a decade ago.
